Hello Everyone, On July 20th, and during this week, Falun Gong practitioners around the world gather to commemorate their fellow practitioners who died in the 19 years of persecution of the practice in China. The Chinese communist regime launched the persecution of Falun Gong (also called Falun Dafa), a mind and body practice guided by the principle of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, 19 years ago on July 20, 1999. Practitioners hold a rallies, candlelight vigils and other events to mourn those who lost their lives and to call for an immediate end to the atrocities still taking place in China. Here are a few pictures from a recent event in Washington, D.C. at the Washington Monument. For those of you who live in or around the D.C. area, I would also like to kindly encourage you to attend the U.S. premier of the award winning documentary “Letter from Masanjia” on Tuesday, July 24th at the Foreign Service Association (2101 E. St. NW, Washington, DC 20037) FILM SYNOPSIS: You may recall the news that an American mom finds an SOS message from a Chinese prisoner of conscience in a package of Halloween decorations from Kmart a few years ago. It made international headlines, and set off a chain of events that would shut down the labor camp system in China. It also ignited the letter-writer’s dangerous quest to expose a deadly persecution faced by the largest group of prisoners of conscience in China. With a good portion of footage secretly shot in China, this award-winning documentary is directed by Peabody Award winning director Leon Lee.
