What I use:
For "Let It Go" I used Propellerhead Reason 6. I tweak each
sound, some of which are default, to make them unique. For drums, I did not use
any specific software, but rather sounds from different kits I have collected
over the years.
I'm more of a pop-hop guy, I have to admit. All my songs start
out with me sitting in front of my keyboard playing melodic chords. After a few
retry's, I settle on a melody I am happy with and just keep layering other
sounds that support it. Most of the time, I create my beats last. In "Let It
Go", you can probably tell that it was just that repeating chopping sound in the
back that got me started. After the chopping sound, I just layered a synth or
two, a sub-bass, added some pizzicato's, and then got to my
